ABOUT
The Upper Red Lake Area Association (URLAA) is a long established, non-profit, volunteer group who plays a very important role in protecting and maintaining one of the greatest places on earth and ask you to take some time and check out all that the Upper Red Lake Area has to offer.
PROJECTS
In the fall of 2021 we welcomed interest in the problem of human waste disposal and removal during the Ice Fishing Season. We started a dialogue with the Beltrami County Soil and Water Conservation District about our shared concerns and efforts to mitigate. A committee was formed to do the hard work of promoting and implementing a sustainable approach to a complex problem.
In the fall of 2022, the Association erected two new billboard signs along Highway #72, five miles south and north of Waskish.

The Committee is made up of stakeholders from the grassroots to the state level who share a common concern - the safe removal of human waste from the frozen lake and the surrounding area. The Keep it Clean message is simple:
Human waste and garbage do not belong on the ice, under the ice or along our shorelines. Please do your part to protect and preserve this valuable resource now, and for generations to come.

Thanks to Josh Jones (Red Lake DNR) for this amazing drone footage of the high water on Upper Red Lake and its impact on the shoreline. It makes this year's cleanup efforts pretty difficult and is resulting in beach erosion in some areas.
