Bemidji is located 30 miles north of Itasca State Park, where the
world's third longest river, the Mississippi, begins as a stream. The
headwaters area is home to more than 1,000 lakes, rivers and streams.
300 fishing lakes lie within 25 miles of Bemidji.
Situated on the shore of Lake Bemidji, graced by the statues of Paul
Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, the city offers a full calendar of
cultural, historical and entertainment activities. Attractions include
the Paul Bunyan Playhouse, Concordia Language Villages, Bemidji Art
Center, Northern Depot Museum, Sculpture Walk Headwaters Science Center,
Lake Bemidji State Park, Buena Vista Ski Area (site of the continental
divide), Antique and Gift Shops, Water Amusement Park, Paul Bunyan
Amusement Park, Animal Land, Bemidji State University and the Chippewa
National Forest.
